This is a digital collage I made inspired by a play by Micaela Robertson of the same name. I chose images that reflect key elements of the story. Ballet is one of them because it’s how the two main characters meet. I also emphasized symbols of pairs, like the shadows dancing, the bunnies on the bed, and the butterflies on the notebook — all of which highlight their bond.
The feminine details, like lace and ribbons, represent their friendship but also hint at its fragility as it falls apart later. Childhood innocence is shown in the stuffed animals, tying back to moments like jumping on the bed.
The muted colours create a nostalgic feel, as if looking through old photographs. When we reflect on the past, we often do so through dreamy eyes, reminiscing on the good parts. I wanted to capture this dreaminess in the collage and connect it to the overall tone of the play.
